Mike Typer was nominated by Topeka Police Officer Ross Gustafson. Officer Gustafson was actively engaged in struggling to take a suspect into custody. The officer was alone with the suspect without backup. Mike Typer heard and saw the struggle and came to the officer's aid and offered his assistance. He stood by until police back-up arrived.
Mr. Typer was nominated for exhibiting the character qualities of Alertness, Boldness and Justice. "Alertness is the June character word of the month", stated Patton, Executive Director of Topeka City of Character. "Alertness is defined as being aware of what is taking place around me so I can have right response. It is very appropriate to recognize the actions of Typer, who was alert to the fact that an officer needed assistance and quickly offered help and provided a presence until back-up arrived."
